German Beef Rouladen

INGREDIENTS

Minute Steaks – https://trewayfarm.co.uk/product/minute-steaks/

Streaky Bacon

Dijon Mustard

Dill Pickles/Gerkins – cut in half lengthways

x1 Medium Onion Chopped

Beef Stock – https://trewayfarm.co.uk/product/potts-beef-stock/

Beef Dripping/Butter For Cooking – https://trewayfarm.co.uk/product/treway-grass-fed-beef-dripping/

method

1, Remove the minute steaks from the packet and lay out on a board. Cut into half crossways.

2, Slather the steaks with dijon mustard then cover with streaky bacon.

3, Lay slices of pickle over the bacon and top with the diced onion.

4, Carefully roll up the steaks ‘swiss roll’ style. Try to keep them as tight as possible and tuck in the edges as you go. Then secure in place with cocktail sticks or tie with cooking string.

5, Melt some dripping/butter in an ovenproof pan, when the pan is hot carefully brown the rouladen on all sides.

6, Once brown add the beef stock and then cover and simmer for 30 mins or until tender or cover and pop in the oven for 30 mins until tender. Just keep an eye and add more water if necessary. I didn’t cover mine which is why they are a little crispy on top!

7, Once tender remove from the pan and serve with the cooking liquor or continue on by adding cornstarch to make gravy.

Tips:

I think a tidy rouladen may take a bit of practising and be warned it is rather messy but delicious!
