Easter Holiday

I think it is safe to say that our mini farmer’s Charlie and Flora have thoroughly enjoyed their Easter holiday. While the juggle of running the farm, the meat business and family life is always a challenge in the holidays I really enjoy the change of pace and routine. They are back to school tomorrow and of course I’m not at all prepared!

Charlie was super lucky and had a wonderful few days in Scilly with my Dad who the children call ‘Gaffy’ a scillonian word for Grandad. They stayed on St Mary’s but had a very sunny day on St Martin’s where they walked the length of the island which included a stop at Daymark. My Dad grew up on St Martin’s so it is always so special to visit. I think Charlie managed to eat his way around St Marys and was full of chatter about what his favourite dish was. As it turns out it was a smoked duck main course which he had at the St Mary’s Hotel where they were staying. Poor Charlie suffered the all to familiar fate on the Scillonian which is renowned for inducing sea sickness and much preferred their return trip on the Skybus which flys from Land’s End Airport!

Flora has been busy at a brilliant theatre school in the holidays held at Redannick Theatre in Truro. She really loves all things dance, singing and drama. She was brilliant as Captain Hook! Then we whisked her off for a night in Falmouth while Charlie was in Scilly. We had an absolutely wonderful 24 hr holiday staying at St Michaels Hotel which is next to Gyllyngvase beach. I couldn’t recommend it more, the staff were brilliant, hotel absolutely immaculate and the food was amazing. The next day we had a swim in the pool and then walked around to Swanpool for lunch on the beach from the Swanpool Beach Cafe. Photo was taken on the walk back to Gyllyngvase under glorious blue skies.

Back on the farm the calving seems to have slowed down but we only have a handful of cows to still calve. The heifers are just about to start calving and then that will be a wrap on the 2025 calving season.

We have now placed our order for our turkey poults (day old turkey chicks) with the hatchery after a lot of discussions about how many we should go for. We finally settled on 150 more than last year which will keep us on our toes again this Christmas. Scarily the goslings will be arriving on the farm in the next couple of weeks!

I know the wet weather isn’t ideal for the Easter holidays but goodness did we need some rain! The grass is almost growing in front of your eyes now with the dousing of water and warmer temperatures.

We hope that you enjoyed the Easter bank holiday weekend!
