Treway On the road

This week we have been out on the road talking all things beef, environment and health.

On Tuesday we were kindly invited by St Austell Rotary Club to speak to the members about our farming journey to net zero. The evening was hosted at the Brittania Inn where we were treated to a delicious dinner before our talk. This is us so things never runs entirely smoothly so the laptop wouldn’t connect to the screen for our presentation!

We absolutely love to share our farming story and spread the word that you can eat beef and support the environment. We chatted through our mob grazing system, herbal leys, shorthorns, beef butchery and of course the realities of farming with mini farmers in tow!

Later in the year we are looking forward to hosting a farm visit for the rotary members where they can see the cattle out grazing and sample some of our beef.

Then very early on Saturday morning (it was a 3am get up!) Will and I headed to Bristol for the weekend for a two day event at Document in St Judes. The first day was the ‘Free From Festival’ where we were selling our fresh beef and hogget alongside burger and salad boxes to go. All products sold had to be gluten free, dairy free and sugar free. Dairy free cheese was certainly a new one on us! Luckily after Flora had a few tummy troubles and had to go gluten free for a while we knew the best rolls to buy – Warburtons Brioche Buns! The event was packed with people streaming in as soon as the gates opened at 11.

On Sunday it was the ‘Keto and Low Carb Festival’ a day for all those following a Ketogenic or low carb diet.

What Is A Ketogenic Diet?!

A ketogenic diet or ‘keto’ diet is an eating pattern that includes high amounts of fat, low to moderate protein and very little carbohydrates (less than 50g per day). The diet is rich in butter, cheese, meat, eggs, nuts, oils, seafood and seeds. The keto diet lowers blood sugar and insulin levels and shifts the body’s metabolism away from carbs and toward fat and ketones.

Sunday was a very busy day for us and it is always so wonderful to meet some of our nationwide delivery customers in person. We collaborated with Srsly Low Carb for the burger buns, we used the seeded rolls which are delicious https://srslylowcarb.com/ and Fu:di https://wearefudi.com/who are a brilliant company making an incredible range of healthy and scrumptious condiments. As they would say ‘Improving the metabolic health of the world one bite, slurp or crunch at a time’.

In the afternoon I shared the festival stage with Tom co founder of Fu:di and Jonathan co founder of ‘Neutrient’ who produce a range of advanced food supplements formulated by practitioners. We all shared the story behind our brands and there was time for a few questions from the audience. Speaking at these sort of events always feels so daunting but as they say growth occurs when you put yourself out of your comfort zone!

I brought home a few goodies to try and I am hoping that we will be shortly listing them on the website!

Sadly the weather wasn’t on our side on Sunday as it rained all day but luckily we are hardy folk and so are our wonderful customers who braved the rain to order their burgers and shop for some meat to take home. But lets just say packing up in the pouring rain is less than fun!

Our next Treway Farm show outing will be at the Porthleven Food Festival 26th, 27th and 28th April which will no doubt be here before we know it.
