And so 2024 begins at treway…

It only seems like a few days ago that we were in the trenches of all things Christmas.
Christmas was our best one yet and that was largely down to having the most wonderful team of staff that made it all happen. It really was a super team effort from plucking to butchery, to shipping and on to farm gate collection.
I can say that I finally ‘let go’ and let someone help me in the office and oh my what a revelation! We found that unlike in previous years where we had received the majority of our orders in October and early November we had the bulk of orders arrive in December. This meant they needed dealing with at the same time as we were processing birds and I am resourceful to say the least but can’t be physically in two places at once!! So Viki usual queen of meat labelling and pick and pack stepped in and shall henceforth be known as the ‘spreadsheet wizard’! She did the most incredible job with the orders and booked all 500 DPD delivery slots.
We thought that we would end up dispatching more turkeys across the country but we weren’t quite prepared for doubling it from the previous year. Truth be known Will and I were rather concerned that it actually wouldn’t be possible to get so many orders boxed in time but oh were we wrong. Again due to our staff working like absolute trojans all orders were boxed, ready for the DPD collection by lunchtime – totally unbelievable!
Turkeys, beef, geese, butchers packs, Christmas puddings and more really did reach every corner of the UK with the furthest delivery being in Inverness just 680 miles from the farm!
Our Christmas collection days are our absolute favourite and it was so lovely to catch up with so many customers over a mulled wine and mince pie!
Since Christmas things as usual have been super busy on the farm….. between Christmas and New Year we turned our turkey sheds back in to cattle sheds and brought in the rest of the shorthorn cows and calves. They were certainly pleased to be in out of the horrid weather!
The new year started on the 2nd January with another whole herd TB test which I am pleased to report was all clear. Such a relief for everyone.
Then we have weaned the last group of cows and calves which went really smoothly. To read more about our weaning method check out this previous blog https://trewayfarm.co.uk/2023/11/06/its-weaning-time-at-treway/
I have been very busy painting in our holiday cottage, which is far from my favourite job but goodness does it look so much fresher. Although never did I think I would be painting in the snow but as always time is of the essence so paint in the snow I did!! Lots of you have been buying dozens of frozen turkey legs, wings, breasts etc along with our beef subscription boxes so I have been kept busy on the weekly nationwide delivery front throughout January.
The mini farmers have been enjoying having their parents back in their life after the Christmas madness!! They really are champs and were brilliant helping us at Christmas.
Looking ahead to this year we have of course got lots of things planned and are pleased to confirm that we have been invited back to exhibit at both the Porthleven Food Festival and The Royal Cornwall Show where we will be serving our burgers and selling our fresh meat which is exciting. Next month we are headed to Bristol for the ‘Free From’ and ‘Keto Festival’ which we are very much looking forward to after a great trip to Birmingham last year.
You will notice there are several new things on the website which are all still works in progress including ‘Treway Venison’ which should be going live in the next couple of weeks.
Going forward we are now back into our weekly fresh meat cycle which goes as follows;
Sunday: Website is updated with fresh beef by 10am
Wednesday: Meat is dispatched fresh for delivery via DPD
Thursday: Deliveries are made by 1pm
Friday: Farm shop is open 10am – 6pm
Saturday: Truro Farmer’s Market 9am – 3pm (will be 4pm from March onwards)
As ever we are beyond grateful for all the support we receive for our small but mighty family farm.
