Porthleven Food Festival

At the weekend we attended our first food festival in Porthleven where we had a brilliant few days.
We were in the Food and Farming marquee which was situated alongside the beautiful harbour. Having never attended the event or done a food festival before we really didn’t know what to expect or know how much beef to take. We plumped for three bodies of beef which luckily turned out to be a good guess as it was just about perfect with not much left at the end!
We really had a wonderful time and saw so many lovely customers and met so many new faces. If you attended the event thank you so much for stopping by and saying hello!
On Thursday we picked the mini farmer’s up from school and headed down to Porthleven to begin setting up. They were of course hugely over excited and spent more time racing around the marquee, rolling around on the floor and hanging over the harbour railings than helping! It was great to get the fridge in situ especially as we realised our pitch was on quite the slope and needed some blocks to level the fridge! Plus I benefitted from Will’s height for hanging our banners and flags.
Friday I flew solo at the festival while Will was holding the fort on the farm and in the shop. It was a busy day at the festival, our beef bombs and African kebabs proved extremely popular which led to an SOS back to the farm to make more for the next day.
On Saturday it is fair to say that the weather was at times frankly biblical! Luckily we were inside a marquee but the poor traders who were outside were nearly washed away. It did mean that the festival goers were packed in the marquee which made for a very busy day. Beef bombs were again a sell out so Will and I were up very late making another big batch when we got home!
Then on Sunday Will flew solo in the morning then I headed down with Charlie and Flora at lunchtime. I honestly couldn’t believe the amount of traffic, we had to park over the hill and far away! But it was a beautiful sunny day and we throughly enjoyed the walk down to the festival. They then ate their way around the festival and had a lot of fun on the rides.
The sunny weather on Sunday really drew the crowds which made for a brilliant day’s trade. Then just like that it was all over and time to pack up and head for home. The mini farmers were for once super stars and really got stuck in fetching and carrying stuff to the van!
The whole weekend was made by time spent with our fabulous fellow traders. We really are lucky in Cornwall to have such a plethora of brilliant food and drink producers who are totally passionate and dedicated.
It is safe to say that we are now all throughly exhausted as we head into another week of ‘beefing’! This week we are celebrating Great British Beef Week.
Our next trip out on the road will be at The Royal Cornwall Show in June where we will once again be in the food and farming tent with our beef. Plus we will be selling hot burgers from our pitch, so follow your nose to find us!!
