Our Hearts Are Broken

Last week we had to say goodbye to our beloved ‘Reuben’.
I have known for a while that this day was nearing as old age was finally catching up with him. He would have been 14 in April which is beyond a ‘good innings’ for a Labrador.
It was wonderful that he made it through to Christmas as the farm collection days have always been the highlight of his year. His big brown eyes pleading hunger to every unsuspecting customer. I smiled this year as I overheard customers remarking how pleased they were to see him.
He has been through so many lifetime moments that it is beyond difficult to imagine life without him. From Will and I meeting, getting married, welcoming both our children and launching our businesses. He has always been the steady constant in all life’s ups and downs with his wet nose, wagging tail and endless love.
He slipped away peacefully at home with his head snuggled in my lap. And we have laid him to rest under the cherry tree in the yard.
Whilst being a family dog he always was a ‘Mummy’s Boy’. Sleep tight my precious boy. Thank you for all your love and so many happy memories.
