Setting Up The Chick Pens

The chicks arrive next week so we have spent the day setting up the brooding pens in what was the old piggery. It makes the perfect place to rear them as the insulated slate roof keeps them cosy while the windows to the front and rear provide plenty of fresh air.
The chicks are reared for the first few days in circular pens which prevents anyone from getting squashed in any corners as they do like to snuggle up together. The floor is bedded with sawdust and heat lamps are hung. All the drinkers and feeders have had a very good clean and the heat bulbs have been tested so we are ready for the 2015 chicks to arrive!
